Post 4: Euthanasia

Euthanasia is a complex subject to discuss in this country, but I think that given the cases of people who are asking to die since their health condition is getting worse every day, ending their lives must be legal and it should be a human right that can’t be denied to anyone in those circumstances.
Euthanasia allows people to have a dignified death and not continue to suffer and endure pain until they deteriorate their body, why people can not die when they want to? Why is someone else deciding when is your last day in this world and not yourself who decides over your own body and life? I feel that it is a totally selfish thought not to legalize euthanasia, since we still consider that there is someone with a “reasoning” greater than yours capable of making decisions for you.
In this country, the thought is so individualistic that we only think if we are going to miss the person who is sick and how much we will need it when they are not here instead of having the empathy to understand that a person is no longer able to live fully or willing to continue suffering.
Is it possible that this law project will one day become effective? There have been cases in Chile such as Paula Díaz, who asked the president of that time to please authorize euthanasia, since she suffered from an undetectable condition that did not allow her to live in peace. It is necessary to stop thinking individually and expand the perspectives with empathy, in this case, recognizing that each person has the ability to decide over their own body as a human right.
